Got writing questions?
A person who writes stories, articles, books, screenplays, and more. Some writers have specific titles such as author, journalist, clerk, scribe, poet, just to name a few.
If you have a story you were born to tell - you are a writer!
A person can build a writing portfolio without a specific degree. The key is to be writing. To be a writer you need to be creative. You need to grow your writing knowledge muscles. Today there is so much offered, and if you are serious about your writing you should pursue your options to expand. Join local or online writer groups. Take classes that are offered. Go on a writing retreat.
You may need a writing degree if you are going to work for a company with a specific title/specialty. There are many great writers who do not have a writing degree. There are many people with writing degrees that never pursued a career in their craft. The bottom line - a true writer has to write! Just like a golfer has to golf. Just like a dancer has to dance (and practice). Some of the time, part-time, a little at a time, or all the time!! Not everyone will be a professional, but if you desire to be a writer - allow that dream to live from within you to the paper or keyboard!
If you are a writer who doesn't love reading, maybe you haven't found the right genre or author! Reading helps to build your writing muscles! Reading doesn't have to be spending hours in the library or bookstore. Reading magazines, newspapers, short stories, poems, and scripts also counts! Being familiar with all kinds of literature will only be more beneficial for you as a writer.
Start with short story books, or maybe find a book on a topic that is of interest to you. Maybe you love birds, history, or philosophy. Maybe there's a famous person that interests you. There are plenty of books in the entertainment genre. Take a trip to the Bookstore and navigate through the aisles. You'll be amazed at the endless options you may find to your liking!! Grab a book, then a bookmark while you're in line, and get reading! Even ten minutes a day is great!
Being a writer requires that you write! Any goal or dream needs some effort and determination. Being a writer doesn't have to be hard, but nothing in this life comes simple. It requires spending time, learning, and well writing.
You can have great story ideas, but if you never write them down how will you know what could become of them? No one is going to do the work for you when it comes to being a writer. No one else can write for you, or tell your story.
So maybe it's not easy, but it's worth it!
